Important days:
Monday: PE + Homework to be handed in.
Tuesday: Beat it
Wednesday: PE
Thursday: Spelling test
Friday: PE kits come home.
On PE days, children must come in with earrings either removed or taped and any long hair tied back as per our uniform policy.
In Year 3, we do everything we can to support the children in school time. Here are a few ways that parents and guardians at home can also support them.
- Read with the child:
Studies show that 20 is plenty and that reading with a child for 20 minutes helps to; improve critical thinking, general knowledge, communication skills, general knowledge and test results, as well as expose children to a world of imagination and creativity, broaden their vocabulary, develop empathy and even reduce stress levels.
- Practice number bonds:
Children in Year 3 work with numbers up to 1000. This feels like a big jump for them, so being confident in their number bonds to any and all numbers is imperative to helping them feel successful when we move onto bigger numbers and helps them with their fluency for other skills such as multiplication and division. - Practice Multiplication and division:
Children in Year 4 take the multiplication check. This may seem like a long way off. However, the more confident they are now, the better they will achieve in Year 4. The 1-minute maths app is great for recall. - Practice weekly spellings in different formats:
Look, cover, write and check is great, but the children love writing them in their pyramids, in different colours and this really helps them to pick up the spelling patterns.
- Practice statutory spellings:
Please find below the statutory spellings for years 3 and 4. These come up in our standardised testing and will help the children as they progress through school.
- Challenge them with their emotional literacy language:
The Colour Monster is a great book to talk about emotions with your child. See the Colour-Monster- Zones- of-Regulation to see if they can broaden their emotional literacy vocabulary and specify their exact emotion.
