Welcome to Ravens' page for Spring One.
In our English lessons, we will be studying Katherine Rundell's novel 'The Explorer.' This is the story of four children who end up being stranded in the Amazon rainforest after the plane they are travelling in crashed to the ground. The characters then explore the forest, using a map they find, and uncover many secrets on the way.
Maths lessons will start with a recap of the four operations as usual and the multitude of mental strategies which can be utilised in order to calculate. We will then be introducing the concepts of ratio and algebra. We will be using function machines as a way of helping us understand the algebra as well. Check out Function machines - BBC Bitesize to find more out about this interesting yet often feared mathematical concept.
Our geography lessons are exploring the continent of North America: we will discover how many different countries can be found here, as well as exploring the variety of biomes. We end the unit by creating a profile, comparing the city of Norwich with the city of Anchorage, in the state of Alaska.
We continue our study of the 20th Century in our history lessons. To follow on from our Autumn One unit on WWI, we will revisit the Treaty of Versaille which was signed to end WWI and examine how this impacted WWII. We will then explore how the Nazi party came into power.
Our PE lessons this half term are gymnastics and Outdoor Adventurous Activity where we will be developing our teamwork, resilience and problem solving skills.
Computing lessons will be using scratch to develop our understanding of using variables, whilst our science lessons will be exploring electricity.
