Welcome to the Ravens page for Autumn Two.

Welcome to Autumn Two! We had a lot of fun last half-term with all of our learning and are looking to build upon the great progress we have made this half-term.

In our English lessons, we will be studying the late Benjamin Zephaniah's novel, 'Windrush Child.' This is the story of Leonard, who, at 10 years old, makes the journey with his mother from Jamaica to join his father in England. Leonard is part of the Windrush generation, one of thousands of people and families who were persuaded by the government to help rebuild England after the Second World War and make a better life for themselves. Our work will focus on poetry and diary forms whilst also exploring grammatical terms such as relative clauses and modal verbs. Please see our knowledge organisers for more information. It will also explore the role of racism in Leonard's life, which Zephaniah also experienced growing up in the Midlands in the 1960s. This will be linked heavily with our British values of respect and tolerance.

Maths lessons will start with a recap of the four operations and the multitude of mental strategies which can be utilised in order to calculate. It is essential that children continue to practise their number bonds and multiplication facts at home so that they can become fluent, and the maths becomes automatic, freeing up their minds to concentrate on more complex problems.

Throughout our afternoon sessions we will continue to develop our knowledge and our skills. We will be exploring the impact of air pollution in Great Britain. We will also look at how the suffragettes and suffragists campaigned for women's suffrage in our history unit.

J'adore le foot? Well, in French we are developing our language through the theme of football champions, which we will also be learning practically in our PE lessons with Mrs Jones.

Our other PE lesson will be dance, where we will be developing our knowledge of disco and Bhangra: a traditional Punjab dance.
